Gumby Gumby is a rare member of the botanical family Pittosporum. It is a shrub or small tree native to Australia. Whilst six varieties can be found in the state of Queensland alone, it is wise to be careful when harvesting Gumby Gumby leaves as some of the varieties are toxic and only a few have a good, aromatic taste and are beneficial. There is growing interest worldwide in the healing plants and traditional knowledge of Australia’s Aboriginal tribes.  Much of that interest has centered on the Gumby Gumby tree. There are several species of the tree, but the variety prized for its medicinal properties is Pittosporum angustifolium (formerly called phylliraeoides). It is a relatively rare species, often ravaged by wildfires and foraging animals, and difficult to propogate.
